Crazy, I know, I am crazy! As most of you, I suspect, I went out shopping this weekend. Shopping, oh, I love shopping! There is something about the “hunt”. I get so involved in the hunt for the perfect gift coupled with the perfect deal. What an exhilarating rush to know that I have found it…and that it is 75% off the original price with an additional 25% because I am buying it at 5:00am on Friday, Nov. 24. WHAT A STEAL! I can’t hardly wait to get to the cash register to hand over my already over used credit card to the clerk behind the counter. I wait anxiously as she rings up the items; making sure that I am getting exactly the deal I think I should be getting. Everything goes as planned; I sign my name on the receipt and she hands me my bags. It is then…that one moment in time that both the clerk and I have a decision to make. Do we give our fair wells with a “Happy Holiday’s” or a “Merry Christmas”?
As Christmas gets closer it seems that this debate is battled over and over again; what is the politically correct thing to say. I don’t know about you all but to me, I could give a hoot about being politically correct and I want everybody I come in contact with to know that I am celebrating Christmas…not just a holiday. Therefore, every time a clerk says anything other than Merry Christmas to me I will make a point to look him or her in the eye’s and with a smile on my face and a tone of voice that is correcting yet gentle proudly say
“MERRY CHRISTMAS!”
I think that if more and more of us Christians take it upon ourselves to proclaim that JESUS is the Reason for the Season than He won’t be forgotten. Just a thought.
